Backstory: The Mountain Dog
Ruffus, a noble and gentle St. Bernard, was born in the heart of the snow-capped mountains. His world was a vast wilderness, where the white of the snow and the blue of the sky merged in a dance of natural beauty. Ruffus' master, a rugged and silent mountain man, found him as a tiny pup, abandoned and shivering in the cold. With a gruff kindness, the mountain man raised Ruffus, introducing him to his pack of eight other dogs, each unique but united under their master's care.
The mountain man and his dogs were inseparable, a team that braved the harshest conditions to help lost travelers. Ruffus, with his thick fur and unwavering sense of direction, quickly became the heart of the pack. His deep bark and gentle eyes made him a favorite, not just among his canine family, but also among the few people they encountered in their solitary life. Life in the mountains was tough but fulfilling. Ruffus and his pack would often be seen trailing behind the mountain man, their figures a familiar sight against the backdrop of towering peaks and endless forests. They were more than just a team; they were a family, bound by loyalty and the shared joy of running through the snow-laden trails. One fateful day, the skies turned ominously dark as they ventured out. The mountain man, sensing danger, signaled for the pack to return. But nature had other plans. Without warning, a massive avalanche roared down the mountainside. Ruffus, with his keen instincts, sensed it before it struck. He barked frantically, trying to warn his pack and his master. But it was too late. In a moment of terrifying power, the avalanche engulfed everything in its path. Ruffus, who had managed to find refuge behind a sturdy pine, watched helplessly as his family was swept away. The world he knew, the life he cherished with his pack and his beloved master, disappeared under a blanket of white. The avalanche subsided, leaving behind an eerie silence. Ruffus emerged from his hiding, his heart heavy with grief. He trudged through the snow, searching in vain for any sign of his pack or his master. But all he found was the cold, unyielding snow. The story of Ruffus ends in solemn solitude, with the brave St. Bernard standing atop a ridge, overlooking the valley that had been his home. As the sun set, casting a golden glow over the snow, Ruffus let out a long, mournful howl, a tribute to his lost family. And there he remained, a sentinel of the mountains, but this was not the end. His mind awoke in his grief. |
